Executive chairman Nathan Shi released a statement regarding the decision, acknowledging that it was a tough call. Shi expressed gratitude to Edwards and his staff for their contributions to the team during a challenging period in the club's history.
Shi stated that Edwards conducted himself professionally, with integrity and commitment, during his time at the club. He emphasized that the decision to part ways with Edwards was not taken lightly, but was necessary to achieve the club's ambition of building a successful football team.
The club is now seeking to hire a new head coach, with Cesar Peixoto reportedly being considered for the position. Peixoto led Gil Vicente to sixth place in Portugal's Primeira Liga last season.
