The decision to deny Artan entry to the US was met with widespread criticism. However, Artan received a hero's welcome upon his return to Somalia, where he was greeted in Mogadishu.
Despite missing out on the World Cup, UEFA has given Artan the opportunity to officiate the 2026 UEFA Super Cup. The match will feature Europa League winners Aston Villa and Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
UEFA president Alexander Ceferin praised Artan's skills, saying, "Omar Artan is an excellent young and experienced referee, who has proven himself at the highest competition level of the Confederation of African Football." Ceferin expressed appreciation for the support of CAF President Patrice Motsepe in making the decision to appoint Artan as the referee for the Super Cup.
