He acknowledged that the first time he experienced transfer rumors, it was a surprise to him, but as he has gained more experience, he has learned to view it as a normal part of being a professional footballer.

"You hear it, of course you do," Watkins said. "But 95 per cent of it is just noise. You've got to use it in a positive way and focus on your game."

There has been speculation that Watkins will be competing with Jude Bellingham for a spot in the England team, but he believes that they could play together.

"I think we can definitely play together," Watkins said. "I'd love to play with England's best players, and he's right at the front of that. Someone I've always wanted to play with from a very young age."
