Jota was on his way back to England to start pre-season training after helping Liverpool win the Premier League title the previous season. His final goal for the club was a crucial winner in the Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield in April.
In a documentary, Jota expressed his pride in being able to contribute to the team's success, saying, "It was a tough season for me, but I was always there fighting, and I could help the team that day, and I'm proud of what I could still do."
Jota described the feeling of scoring a goal that decides an important game as "hard to describe" but something he strives for in every match. He spent five years with Liverpool, joining from Wolves in 2020, and achieved remarkable success, including winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup.
Jota reflected on his Liverpool career, saying, "It's something I couldn't even dream of as a kid. I wanted to play in the Premier League, but I could never imagine winning it."
As a tribute to Jota's legacy, Liverpool has retired his number 20 shirt, and a permanent sculpture will be dedicated to him outside Anfield. A mural of the star already adorns the wall of a building near the stadium.
