Scherpen, 25, joined Brighton in 2021 from Ajax but made only one senior appearance for the team.
He has signed a new deal with Union SG that will keep him at the club until 2028, with a transfer fee reportedly worth €2 million.
Brighton's football chief, David Weir, expressed his gratitude to Scherpen for his time at the club and wished him well for his future career.
