Ekitike, 23, joins Liverpool on a six-year contract after a successful season with Frankfurt, where he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions. He was also named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season.
Newcastle United had previously expressed interest in Ekitike, but their £70 million offer was rejected by Frankfurt. Liverpool had considered signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle, but were told he would not be sold. Instead, they focused on securing Ekitike's signing, which was finalized during the club's pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan.
Ekitike initially joined Frankfurt on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in February 2024, before the move became permanent two months later. He has not yet been capped at the senior level for France, but has played five times for the Under-21 team.
This signing adds to Liverpool's revamped squad, which is preparing to defend their Premier League title. The team has already recruited Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, as well as goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
