Real Madrid is looking to end a four-match losing streak against Barcelona, having won eight of their nine league games so far this season. The teams' previous matches last season were dominated by Barcelona, who won four in a row across all competitions, including two league victories.
Barcelona opened last season with a 4-0 win at the Bernabéu and followed it up with a 5-2 victory in the Spanish Super Cup final, a 3-2 win in the Copa del Rey final, and a 4-3 win in the second league El Clásico of 2024/25.
Real Madrid will look to bounce back by ending this four-game losing streak on Sunday. They have won eight consecutive league games at home, with their last home league loss coming in early April, when Valencia CF defeated them 2-1.
Barcelona, on the other hand, has been working to regain their form after a 2-1 loss at home to Paris Saint-Germain and a 4-1 defeat away at Sevilla FC. They managed to overcome Girona FC on Saturday, with Pedri scoring the first goal and Ronald Araújo netting a stoppage-time winner for a 2-1 victory.
Barcelona followed that up with a 6-1 thrashing of Olympiacos in the Champions League, with Fermín López scoring three goals and becoming the first Spanish player to score a hat-trick for Barcelona in the major European competition.
Lamine Yamal's return to action after injury is a boost for Barcelona ahead of Sunday's El Clásico. He has already faced Real Madrid seven times and scored three goals, including three goals in four victories last season.
He will face an in-form Kylian Mbappé, who scored the winner for Real Madrid in their 1-0 victory away at Getafe CF on Sunday, becoming the first La Liga player to reach double digits in scoring this season with 10 goals in nine league matches.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona will extend their winning streak against Real Madrid or if the hosts will come out victorious in Sunday's highly anticipated match.
