Benfica and Felix had agreed on a two-year contract worth €12m, with Felix willing to accept a salary drop from €8m with Chelsea. However, Benfica refused to meet Chelsea's €50m asking price, even when given the option to pay the second half of €25m in installments.
Benfica insisted they would not pay more than €25m, and despite Felix's wishes, the move collapsed. Al Nassr then stepped in and agreed a fee of €30m upfront, with a further €20m due in bonuses and installments.
Felix still needed convincing about a move to Saudi Arabia, but Al Nassr's offer of a two-year contract worth a staggering €75m (net) eventually persuaded him to join.
With the support of Portugal teammates Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr and Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo at Al Hilal, Felix accepted the transfer, confident he would remain on the radar in the Saudi Pro League for his country's World Cup selection.
