The Walther Bensemann Prize honors the memory of Walther Bensemann, a pioneer of German football who founded the sports magazine Kicker in 1920. He passed away in 1934 at the age of 61.

Thiemo Muller, a member of Kicker's editorial board, explained why Klopp was chosen for the award: "Jurgen Klopp is a worthy recipient and a true bridge-builder in football. He remains authentic in his love for the game's roots and promotes football as a means of intercultural understanding."

Muller also noted that Klopp's sense of humor and genuine style make him a unique figure in the football world. "He embodies a refreshing sense of humor in the often serious football business," Muller said.

The award has previously been given to notable coaches and figures in the football world, including Ottmar Hitzfeld, Vicente del Bosque, and Sir Alex Ferguson.
